Ryzen 9 hardware with the headroom heavy mods like Frackin' Universe actually need. Persistent universe backups every 15 minutes, full Steam Workshop + manual mod support, DDoS protection, and a web admin console out of the box. Deploy a Starbound server in under 60 seconds and keep your colony safe across every star system.
Starbound worlds aren't small โ a heavily-populated universe with colonies across a dozen star systems generates serious disk I/O and keeps the CPU busy. We've sized every plan for the modded late-game, not the first time you punch a tree on your starter planet.
Your universe folder can grow to multi-GB on a long-running RP or FU server. Every plan ships with NVMe storage sized well beyond late-game universe files โ no I/O stalls when someone warps to a new system.
Starbound's chunk loading and Lua scripting layer love fast single-thread performance. Ryzen 9 7950X at 5.7 GHz boost with DDR5-5200 keeps tick rates honest even when someone drops a colony full of tenants with script-heavy mods.
Your universe/, storage/, and player/ folders snapshot every 15 minutes to an isolated backup volume with 30-day retention. One-click rollback from the dashboard โ we've never lost a universe yet.
Full support for Steam Workshop subscriptions, .pak manual uploads, and mods/ folder installs. Frackin' Universe, Arcana, Project Knightfall, RP overhauls โ upload via SFTP or the web file manager, no whitelist or gatekeeping.
Web console, player list, broadcast, scheduled restarts. Configure admins via starbound_server.config, grant /admin in-game, and track kicks and bans through the dashboard without opening a terminal.
Layer 3/4/7 mitigation on every plan at no extra cost. Query floods and connection spam on port 21025 are filtered at the edge โ your colony stays online even when a rival RP community decides to ruin your Sunday.
Datacenters in New York, LA, Dallas, London, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Warsaw, Singapore, Tokyo, and Sydney. Pick the node closest to your crew โ change it anytime, free.
Starbound's RP scene is big. We ship a tuned starbound_server.config template with allowAdminCommandsFromAnyone off, account whitelist, character persistence, and PvP toggles โ ready for roleplay day one.
Live chat, Discord, and tickets โ staffed by people who know the difference between sbinit.config and starbound_server.config, and can debug a Frackin' Universe load-order issue without Googling it. No first-line script readers.
Four ways to launch your Starbound universe โ from fully managed cloud hosting to a hand-built modded community server assembled by our team.

starbound_server.config920+ Starbound universes running on Fatality. Here's what keeps them here.
We run a 24/7 Frackin' Universe RP server with 80+ mods. Migration from our previous host took 10 minutes over SFTP. Universe load times dropped from 45 seconds to 7 seconds. Our RP nights actually start on time now.
8-friend vanilla server, but we've been playing on and off for two years. Backups saved us twice โ once when someone accidentally /admin'd a warhead into spawn, once when a patch broke our colony. Zero data loss either time.
Deployed in under 60 seconds, uploaded my existing universe folder, invited 12 people. Every RP community I've talked to uses Fatality now โ the panel just works, admin tools are there, and support actually reads my tickets.
The questions admins actually ask before spinning up a dedicated universe.
Starbound's maxPlayers config defaults to 8, but there's no hard engine cap โ we regularly see 20-32 player RP servers, and with enough RAM you can push higher. RP servers get the most out of 12-20 slots; any larger starts to stress the chunk-load loop. Pick a plan with ~500 MB RAM per active player for vanilla, 1 GB per player for Frackin' Universe.
Yes. Your universe/, storage/, and player/ folders snapshot every 15 minutes to an isolated backup volume with 30-day retention. Manual snapshots are unlimited. Rollback from the dashboard in one click โ the server comes back online in about 10 seconds with your chosen snapshot loaded.
Full support. FU is the most-popular modded setup we host โ just subscribe to the collection on Workshop or upload the .pak files to mods/ via SFTP. No mod count limit, no install whitelist. We recommend 8 GB+ RAM for FU servers with 5+ players.
Yes. Upload your universe/, storage/, and player/ folders via SFTP, restart the server, and your universe is intact. Works for singleplayer universes you're converting to multiplayer as well as existing dedicated server universes from another host.
They don't. Layer 3/4/7 mitigation is on every plan at no extra cost. Query floods and connection spam on Starbound's port 21025 are filtered at the network edge before they reach your server. Your players won't notice an attack even if you do on the dashboard.
Starbound universes can reach 5-10+ GB after a year of heavy play with lots of visited systems and colonies. Every plan ships with NVMe storage sized well beyond that, and you can expand anytime from the dashboard without a migration.
Edit starbound_server.config โ find the serverUsers section and add users with admin: true. Our panel ships with a GUI for this โ add a username + password, toggle admin, save, the server reloads the user list. In-game, admins use /admin to enter admin mode and gain access to spawn commands, warp, give items, etc.
AMD Ryzen 9 7950X (5.7 GHz boost, 16 cores), DDR5-5200 RAM, Enterprise NVMe Gen 4 SSDs. Starbound's chunk-loading and Lua script execution benefit most from fast single-thread clocks โ the 7950X delivers both raw speed and cores for your background tasks (panel, RCON, backups).
Yes โ that's the single most common use case we host for Starbound. Our tuned config template disables anonymous connections, enables persistent character storage, turns off PvP by default, and enables the whitelist. Flip the usual RP toggles and you're ready for day one.
Yes. Set allowAnonymousConnections: false and serverUsers with account credentials. Players log in with username/password, their characters are stored in your server's universe/ folder (not their local client), and they can only play those characters when connected to your server. Standard for RP communities.
Chucklefish stopped pushing major updates in 2019, but the game is stable and the community (Frackin' Universe team especially) carries the torch. Our panel lets you pin the version if a mod you rely on needs a specific Starbound build. Otherwise we default to the latest stable.
Start a vanilla universe this afternoon, scale up when your RP community lands. Free migration on every paid plan.
